WTF? Rupert Murdoch Just Short of Endorses Obama

Rupert Murdoch -- Chairman of News Corp, new WSJ owner, and longtime torchbearer for conservative politics -- said this about Barack Obama: "He is a rock star. It's fantastic" "I love what he is saying about education." "I don't think he will win Florida.....but he will win in Ohio and the election". "I am anxious to meet him." "I want to see if he will walk the walk."

About the presumptive Republican nominee, Murdoch said, "McCain is a friend of mine. He's a patriot. But he's unpredicatble. Doesn't seem to know much about the economy. He has been in Congress a long time, and you have to make a lot of compromises. So what's he really stand for?... I think he has a lot of problems."

Puh-Lease: Terrorrist Scarves?

A seemingly innocuous Dunkin' Donuts commercial starring Rachael Ray has sent the conservative blogosphere aflutter because it appears that Ray is wearing a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh,* which to some is the equivalent of calling for jihad.

At least that's what conservative uber-blogger Michelle Malkin thinks. She refers to Ray's scarf as an example of "jihadi chic." (Looks like ordinary paisley to us, but we're not experts in "jihadi chic.")

She then writes, "I’m hoping her hate couture choice was spurred more by ignorance than ideology."

Clearly, Malkin has too much time on her hands. Keith Olbermann called her "paranoid." But Dunkin' Donuts immediately yanked the ad.

You've never seen Bostonist defend Rachael Ray or Dunkin' Donuts decision to use her as a spokesperson, especially since she is an avowed Starbucks drinker, but this Bostonist is on Ray's side, at least just this once.

*By the way, not everyone who wears a keffiyeh is a terrorist. The kaffiyeh-wearing Bedouin herders would be pissed to hear that they're now terrorists.

Can someone please slap these people or something? This is as idiotic, narrow-minded and ridiculous as radical religious zealots of any flavor anywhere.

Indian Black Wizard Fails to Kill Atheist on Live TV

On 3 March 2008, in a popular TV show, Sanal Edamaruku, the president of Rationalist International, challenged India’s most “powerful” tantrik (black magician) to demonstrate his powers on him. That was the beginning of an unprecedented experiment. After all his chanting of mantra (magic words) and ceremonies of tantra failed, the tantrik decided to kill Sanal Edamaruku with the “ultimate destruction ceremony” on live TV. Sanal Edamaruku agreed and sat in the altar of the black magic ritual. India TV observed skyrocketing viewership rates.

Now the tantrik wrote Sanal’s name on a sheet of paper, tore it into small pieces, dipped them into a pot with boiling butter oil and threw them dramatically into the flames. Nothing happened. Singing and singing, he sprinkled water on Sanal, mopped a bunch of peacock feathers over his head, threw mustard seed into the fire and other outlandish things more. Sanal smiled, nothing happened, and time was running out. Only seven more minutes before midnight, the tantrik decided to use his ultimate weapon: the clod of wheat flour dough. He kneaded it and powdered it with mysterious ingredients, then asked Sanal to touch it. Sanal did so, and the grand magic finale begun. The tantrik pierced blunt nails on the dough, then cut it wildly with a knife and threw them into the fire. That moment, Sanal should have broken down. But he did not. He laughed. Forty more seconds, counted the anchor, twenty, ten, five… it’s over!

Millions of people must have uttered a sigh of relief in front their TVs. Sanal was very much alive. Tantra power had miserably failed. Tantriks are creating such a scaring atmosphere that even people, who know that black magic has no base, can just break down out of fear, commented a scientist during the program. It needs enormous courage and confidence to challenge them by actually putting one’s life at risk, he said. By doing so, Sanal Edamaruku has broken the spell, and has taken away much of the fear of those who witnessed his triumph.

Glenn Beck Talks About Health Care -- First-Hand Experience is Different, huh?

The video is deeply disturbing.

In it, CNN Headline News anchor Glenn Beck describes going to the emergency room in intense pain -- so overwhelming, he wept.

He says that for two hours, no one gave him pain medication. In fact, he says, no one lifted a finger to help him at all for 40 minutes.

Free Sex in Prague - With a Catch

Visitors to Big Sister start at the electronic menu, which provides each woman's age, height, working name and the languages she speaks. After a customer makes his selection, a manager makes sure the client signs broadcast release forms, and then the intimate details are arranged with the partner for the evening.

After donning a burgundy terry-cloth robe and slippers in a carpeted locker room, each client heads downstairs where the action takes place. Every move is recorded by more than 50 video cameras mounted everywhere from the toilets to the bed posts.

Big Sister is the logical result of the reality TV craze, says Paul Levinson, chair of communications and media studies at Fordham University in New York. The brothel's name is a play on ``Big Brother,'' a TV show seen in 70 countries. The two aren't related.

``It does seem people like all extremes of reality TV,'' says Levinson, who wasn't aware of Big Sister. ``As media gets more advanced it gets more real. As much as high-definition has replaced black-and-white, this advancement has also been seen in terms of content.''

`Monster' Potential

At Big Sister, about a dozen guests perform on camera each night, and the Web site gets 10,000 to 15,000 hits a day, Borowitz, 26, says.

Tila Tequila - Success from Anime Aesthetics?

I was watching (yeah, I know...) Tila Tequila's new show (I don't think it really deserves a link), and I was wondering... she looks a lot like a real-life Anime character.

Could it be that her "success" is due to that?

P.S. Funny how fake reality shows are. From the few things I've heard of her, even I knew she claims to be bi-sexual, and in the show she says it was a "big secret"... bologna.

7/11 as Kwik-E-Mart

I was a little disappointed to see Bart & Milhouse flanking the Kwik-E-Mart logo, it kind of took away from any authenticity, but it’s a silly quibble, really. They did a better and more thorough job than I was expecting. One nice touch is that a bunch of paper signs have been hung up all over the store using scraps of duct tape. I have no idea if the haphazard appearance was intentional, I prefer to think it was not.

Very Nice. D'oh!
