Can YouTube Be a Real Business?


YouTube has purportedly raised $11+ million, but it's operational costs -- bandwith alone, even -- must be huge. Sure, they have a lot of eyeballs but how do they make money out of this? There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

There are a bunch of competitors now too... I posted some videos today from MetaCafe. What is the barrier to entry for other competing companies?

I've recently got a new cell phone and the streaming video capabilities are pretty impressive. Maybe that's a good market for YouTube? In any case, it will be interesting to see what happens.
